Week ten of the Apertura season saw Colo Colo return to the top of the table ahead of next weekend’s superclasico against Universidad de Chile.
Colo Colo return to the summit came courtesy of a somewhat fortunate 2-1 win over Huachipato in the Estadio CAP. Los albos were gifted their opener after Huachipato’s goalkeeper Felipe Nuñez’s attempt at some fancy footwork came unstuck to allow Emiliano Vecchio to score. Their second and decisive goal came from the penalty spot with Esteban Paredes converting a somewhat contentious penalty was awarded by referee Julio Bascuñan. Sandwiched in between those two goals was Javier Parraguez’s 73rd minute equaliser.
Coming into the round, Universidad de Concepcion lead the way on goal difference, and with a win in the last game of the game could have remained in top spot. However two goals in two minutes to Diego Valdes and Felipe Mora saw Audax Italiano triumph 2-1 with the team from Concepcion dropped to third on the table in the process.
Sitting two points behind Colo Colo in second position are Universidad Católica, who had a relatively comfortably 2-0 victory over Palestino courtesy of goals to Jeisson Vargas and Stefano Magnasco. The only blight on the game for los cruzados was the injury to Mark Gonzalez, who was substituted in the thirty-third minute with a leg injury.
Another player with an injury concern is David Pizarro, who limped off after thirty minutes in Santiago Wanderers 1-0 defeat of Universidad de Chile. The only goal came just before half time as Carlos Muñoz converted from the penalty spot whilst Universidad de Chile finished the match with ten men with Uruguayan Mathais Corujo picking up a two yellow cards in the space of five minutes.
Sitting in fourth position is O’Higgins, who needed an injury time winner from substitute Emilio Zelaya to see off ten man Unión Española 2-1. Meanwhile San Luis recorded its second win of the season and moved off the bottom of the table in the process with a 1-0 victory over San Marcos de Arica. In other matches a defensive lapse saw Antofagasta gift Iquique a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw whilst Cobresal saw Unión La Calera 2-0.
