Santiago Wanderers kept alive their chances of claiming the Apertura title with a 1-0 victory over O’Higgins in round thirteen’s opening fixture. The only goal of the game came in the 66th minute courtesy of Jorge Luna, who converted from the penalty spot after Braulio Leal was adjudged by Enrique Osses to have committed a foul in the area. Leal’s protestations then earned him a second yellow card (he received one for the penalty originally) and O’Higgins were reduced to ten men. However they did have a chance to draw back on level terms but Santiago Wanderers goalkeeper Mauricio Viana saved Octavio Rivero’s 71st minute penalty attempt.

Saturday’s action kicked off with a bang as Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica faced off in the clásico universitario. And it what was Martin Lasarte first meeting against his former club it was his team that triumphed as Universidad de Chile ran out 3-0 winners. Patricio Rubio opened the scoring in only the third minute, making it the fastest goal in clásico universitario history before Mathias Corujo made it two in the 24th minute. Rubio then ensured all three points with a goal in the 88th minute and maintain La U’s two point lead at the top of the table.

Palestino remain with a chance of qualifying for the Copa Libertadores liguilla following a comprehensive 3-1 defeat of Antofagasta in the Estadio Cisterna. First half goals to Leonardo Valencia and Alejandro Contreras combined with a second half penalty to Marcos Riquelme ensured all three points for los arabes. Javier Elizondo grabbed a late goal for Antofagasta but it was of little consolation to a team that now only sits one spot above the relegation zone.

A team that is sitting in the relegation zone is Cobreloa, and their miserable season continued with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Huachipato. Los acereros left it late with goals to Carlos Espinoza and Andres Vilches in the 83rd and 88th minutes respectively ensuring a welcome return to form for Mario Salas’ men following their elimination from the Copa Sudamericana.

During the week Unión Española progressed to the quarter finals of the Copa Chile after they defeat Primera B side San Luis on penalties. However their luck didn’t carry over to the weekend as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Barnechea. Former Universidad Católica player Francisco Pizarro scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute and ensured that Barnechea would move out of the relegation for the first time this season.

Saturday’s final game saw San Marcos de Arica and Universidad de Concepción share the spoils in a scoreless draw in the Estadio Carlos Dittborn.

Iquique’s winless streak stretched to six match as they were held to a one-all draw by Ñublense. Both goals came around the half time break with Sebastian Varas opening the scoring for Ñublense in the 40th minute Misael Davila levelled things up a minute into the second half for Iquique.

Colo Colo left it late to secure all three points against Cobresal as once again Esteban Paredes came to the rescue with a 91st minute penalty to ensure that Universidad de Chile’s lead at the top of the table remains at two points with four rounds remaining.

The weekend’s final match saw Audax Italiano and Unión La Calera split the points in a 2-2 draw in the Estadio Bicentenario La Florida. It was a result that did neither team any favours in the relegation battle for next season with the los italicos sitting bottom of the relegation table whilst La Calera is only two spots above the relegation zone.  Three of the game’s four goals came in the opening forty five minutes with both Diego Vallejos and Diego Valdes getting on the scoresheet for Audax with Leonard Benegas the scorer for the visitors. Agustin Gonzalez grabbed the final goal of the game in the 58th minute for La Calera allowing them to ruin any chances of Audax getting a much needed win.
