The round which is spread over two weekends opened on Friday night with Audax Italiano coming back from a goal behind to defeat Iquique in the Estadio Bicentenario La Florida. Rodrigo Diaz opened the scoring in the 10th minute for the visitors before Mauro Olivi levelled things up from the penalty spot seven minutes later. It wasn’t until late on that Audax got the winner with Bryan Carrasco getting on the end of a Pablo Lopez cross in the 87th minute. Every win is an important one for Audax as they sit in one of the two relegation spots.
Another team that has relegation on their minds is Unión La Calera, who sit just two place above Audax on the relegation table, and like them also came back from a goal down as they defeated Cobresal 2-1 in the Estadio Nicolás Chahuán Nazar. Two second half goals from Jean Paul Pineda and Leandro Benegas cancelled out Cristian Ledesma’s first half opener in what was a valuable three points for the home team.
O’Higgins up and down season continued in round ten as they went down 1-0 to Palestino in the Estadio El Teniente. The only goal of the game came late in the second half courtesy of Leonardo Valencia free kick. The results sees Palestino move up to sixth position on the table whilst O’Higgins drop to eighth.
Huachipato’s excellent run continued with an impressive 3-0 win away to Universidad Católica, rubbing more salt into the wounds of the club who are having a season to forget. Angelo Sagal opened the scoring for los acereros in the 23rd minute, finishing off a deadly counter attack for Mario Salas’ team. Shortly after the home side could have had an equaliser as a goal bound effort was cleared off the line with replays suggesting it had crossed the line but referee Manuel Acosta waved play on. Huachipato added as second with a Omar Melo header in the 55th minute before Andres Vilches scored his fifth goal of the season in the 73rd minute to put the match beyond doubt.
Universidad de Concepción has been somewhat of a sorts for Colo Colo, having not lost to them since December 2010 with only one of those encounters finishing in a draw. However this time around an Esteban Paredes goal in the 68th minute ensured that impressive streak would come to an end and that los albos keep some pressure on league leaders Universidad de Chile.
After winning their first ever away match in the Primera Division two weeks ago Barnechea made it two wins on the road in a row with a 2-1 victory over Cobreloa in the Estadio La Madiguera. The star of the show was Nicolas Maturana with both of Barnechea’s goals in the 17th and 68th minutes respectively which cancelled out Gabriel Mendez’s equaliser in the 59th minute. The win sees them move up to fourteenth position on the table whilst Cobreloa are rooted to the bottom albeit two points below this weekend’s opponents.
Another team at the wrong end of the table is Antofagasta and they also picked up an important win on the weekend defeating Ñublense 2-0. The goals came at the start and end of the match with Gaston Martinez opening the scoring in the 8th minute before Javier Elizondo capped things off with the sealer in the 87th minute.
In the first weekend’s final match Universidad de Chile continued on their merry way with a 2-0 defeat of San Marcos de Arica in the Estadio Nacional. Both goals came courtesy of Patricio Rubio in the 53rd and 92nd minutes and los azules could have had a third with Gustavo Canales missing a penalty in the 87th minute. The win sees La U maintain their unbeaten run so far this season and also ensure they still had a five point gap at the top of the table.
Whilst not strictly a round ten match up, Unión La Calera grabbed an unlikely victory in their delayed round nine encounter with Huachipato, defeating the home side 4-0 in the Estadio CAP on Saturday afternoon. The hero of the afternoon was Leandro Benegas who grabbed a hat-trick whilst Francisco Bahamondes grabbed the other. The win sees Unión La Calera leap frog their opponents into fourth position on the table.
Round ten officially came to its conclusion on Sunday with Santiago Wanderers grabbing all three points against Unión Española with a last gap winner from Pablo Tamburrini. The win sees the Wanderers maintain their third position on the table only one point behind Colo Colo in second.
