Católica given a helping hand to close the gap at the top

We may have a title race after all. Colo Colo’s goalless draw away to Cobreloa gave O’Higgins and Universidad Católica the chance to close the gap at the top.

The Apertura champions  were unable to do so as they too drew 0-0, against Universidad de Concepción, but UC could as they saw off Santiago Wanderers 2-0 on Monday night to close the gap to four points.

They were not at their best but they were helped on their way by Wanderers custodian José Lafrentz. The 21-year-old goalkeeper allowed Darío Bottinelli tame free-kick to sail through his hands.Lafrentz mistakeHowever, the game was marred by the horrific injury to Católica defender Marko Biskupovic who suffered a terrible fractured left ankle after a fairly innocuous challenge by Wanderers front man Sebastian Pol.

A .GIF  has been made of the injury and we considered putting it up but it is pretty gruesome with his foot not in its correct position. An ambulance had to come onto the pitch to take the defender to hospital. Pol left the pitch in tears.

Biskupovic will likely be out for four to six months.
