Yesterday evening, Jorge Sampaoli announced the five domestic-based players that will make up the 24-man squad to face Germany in Stuttgart on Tuesday.
However, the disappointment of this writer and many Colo Colo fans there was one name conspicuous in its absence, that of Jaime Valdés.
Since returning to Chile Valdés has been key in Colo Colo’s resurgence as they sit top of the Clausura with seven wins and one draw. He has been stationed in a deeper role but in the absence of Emiliano Vecchio he was prompted further forward against Palestino, laying on the goal for Juan Delgado. More performances like that in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Palestino will make it hard for Sampaoli to ignore.
