There were plenty of Chileans in action around the world this week but only a few managed to get on the scoresheet as Eduardo Vargas broke his duck for Gremio this season whilst Angelo Henriquez scored his second goal in as many games for Real Zaragoza.
In England, Gary Medel played a full ninety minutes in Cardiff City’s 2-1 away win at Fulham extending his run without a yellow card to six matches in the process. In the Championship Jean Beausejour was an unused substitute in Wigan’s 1-0 away loss to Watford whilst Gonzalo Jara also didn’t make it onto the pitch in Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win over Derby.
In Spain, Alexis Sánchez played 81 minutes in Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Almería, a win which maintains their position at the top of the table. Bryan Rabello didn’t see in any action in Sevilla’s 1-all draw with Real Sociedad in which fellow Chilean Claudio Bravo played a full ninety minutes.
Francisco Silva played a full ninety minutes as his Osasuna remained rooted to the bottom of the La Liga table after they lost 1-0 to Levante. Meanwhile, Pedro Morales played 72 minutes in Malaga’s two-all draw with Real Vallodolid whilst Manuel Iturra played a full match in Granada’s 2-0 victory over Athletic Club. In the Spanish Segunda Division, Angelo Henriquez scored his second goal in as many games but couldn’t stop Real Zaragoza losing 2-1 to Recreativo Huelva.
In Italy, Arturo Vidal played a full ninety minutes in Juventus’ 1-0 victory over Torino in the Turin derby whilst Mauricio Isla was an unused substitute. Mauricio Pinilla celebrated his return to the national team with seventy-four minutes in Cagliari’s one-all draw with Inter Milan. In Florence, David Pizarro played the whole match in Fiorentina’s two-all draw with Parma whilst Matías Fernandez failed to make it off the bench as did Jaime Valdes for Parma. Meanwhile Carlos Carmona also played the whole match in Atalanta’s 2-0 win over Udinese.
In Holland Felipe Gutierrez played ninety minutes in FC Twente’s 5-0 thrashing of Groningen providing an assist for Rasmus Bengtsson’s opener. In the same match Stefano Magnasco was an unused substitute for Groningen.
Marcelo Díaz came on as 64th minute substitute in FC Basel’s two-all draw with Sion whilst in Croatia, Junior Fernándes played ninety minutes in Dinamo Zagreb’s scoreless draw away to Zadar. Meanwhile In Romania Diego Rubio came on as a 52nd minute substitute for Pandurii Târgu Jiu in their 2-1 loss to Gaz Metan Medias.
In Mexico Humberto Suazo returned from injury as he came on as a 57th minute substitute in Monterrey’s 1-0 away loss to Pumas UNAM whilst Miguel Pinto and Rodrigo Millar played ninety and eighty-three minutes respectively in Atlas’ 1-1 draw with Chivas Guadalajara. Esteban Paredes played fifty-nine minutes as his Querétaro side gave up a two goal lead in a two-all draw with Tigres UANL whilst Hector Mancilla saw out a full match in Morelia’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Santos Laguna Pumas..
In Brazil Eugenio Mena played a full ninety minutes for Santos as they went down 2-1 to Botafogo whilst Eduardo Vargas followed up his exploits for the national team with a full match in Gremio’s 1-0 loss at the hands of Copa Libertadores champions Atletico Mineiro. Meanwhile in Serie B, Jorge Valdivia played was substituted in injury time as Palmeiras drew one-all draw with America Mineiro.
