Week one of the Torneo Transición kicked off in the south of the country with two matches on Friday night, with both matches ending in draws. Rangers and Audax Italiano opened proceedings with a 1-1 draw in the Fiscal de Talca. It was the visitors who opened the scoring in the thirteenth minute courtesy of Rangers’ defender Javier Capelli, who turned a Marco Medel cross into his own net before José Vizcarra got the equaliser in the 78th minute. In the other match Clausura champions Huachipato were held scoreless in a nil all draw with Primera Division new boys San Marcos de Arica, despite having the better opportunities.
Saturday’s first match between Santiago Wanderers and Universidad de Chile was postponed after a suitable venue wasn’t able to be found due to a combination of ineptitude and stadiums under construction. There were no such worries for Unión La Calera and Antofagasta in the day’s next match with Unión La Calera running out 2-1 winners. Daniel Arismendi opened the scoring in the 8th minute for Antofagasta with a header before goals from goalkeeper Armaldo Giménez and Leandro Benegas sealed the victory for La Calera.
The weekend’s next match featured two newly promoted teams in the form of Ñublense and Everton which ended with the spoils shared in a 1-all draw with José Luis Muñoz getting the opener for Everton in the 69th minute before Javier Grbrec equalised ten minutes later. The day’s action drew to a close with a scoreless draw between Iquique and Palestino.
Sunday saw the first two matches take place in the north of the country with both teams suffering differing fortunes. For Cobresal they went down 2-1 to Clausura runners-up, Unión Española, despite opening the scoring courtesy of Néstor Martinera. For their clásico del cobre rivals Cobreloa it was a much different result as they thrashed Colo Colo 5-2 to begin their season in dominant fashion against a struggling los albos side. Under the tutelage of Marcos Antonio Figueroa, Cobreloa looked like they will be a force to be reckoned with this season with new signing Miguel Ángel Cuellar, who scored a brace on the day, being a key component.
The weekend’s last match saw the competition return to the south again as Universidad Católica defeated their hosts O’Higgins courtesy of a 30th minute goal from Sixto Peralta.
